This article includes some of our frequently asked questions about subscriptions. The first set of questions are general, while the last two are specific to our Commentary Select subscription.

 

General Subscription FAQs:

Who are subscriptions designed for?

Our subscriptions are designed for anyone who is interested in studying the Bible. A subscription makes it easy to have a solid Bible study library so you can start reading and studying Scripture right away.

If you're new to Bible study, or new to the Olive Tree Bible App, the Bible Study Pack and Starter Packs are a great place to start. They give you access to curated Library of Bible study resources. You can learn more here!

For those who want to go deeper, our Commentary Select subscription is a great option. Commentary Select is an affordable, flexible commentary subscription that allows you to exchange commentary volumes each month as your study needs change. 

The Classic Commentary subscription is ideal for anyone who wants to study Scripture through the lens of historical and theological depth. Whether you're a pastor, teacher, or lifelong learner, this subscription gives you access to beloved and time-tested works from theologians like John Calvin, Matthew Henry, and others—perfect for devotional study, sermon prep, or personal growth.

What are the benefits of a subscription? 

For just $2.99–$5.99/month, our Bible Study Pack or Starter Pack subscriptions give you access to a curated library that includes Study Bibles, a one-volume Bible commentary, a Bible dictionary, a maps set, a Bible atlas, a cross reference set, and a concordance tied to Strong’s numbers for basic original language study. Buying these resources individually through Olive Tree would cost over $300.

For $8.99–$19.99/month, the Commentary Select subscription allows you to handpick the premium commentaries that best suit your current study needs. You can swap volumes each month, giving you the flexibility to match your resources to your Bible reading or teaching schedule.

For $7.99/month, the Classic Commentary Subscription gives you unlimited access to a rich library of trusted commentary sets from respected pastors and theologians like Matthew Henry, John Calvin, Keil and Delitzsch, Martin Luther, and more. This subscription is perfect for those looking to deepen their understanding of Scripture through the insights of historic voices of the faith.

What are the differences between the subscriptions Olive Tree offers?

We offer two different styles of subscriptions. Our "Study Pack" subscriptions and our "Commentary Select" subscription.

Study Packs:

We have four different 'Study Pack' subscription bundles available right now, the Starter Pack, ESV Study Pack, the NIV Study Pack, the NKJV Study Pack, CSB Study Pack and the NLT Study Pack. Commentary Select:

Commentary Select allows for a more customized user experience. Each month, you get to hand select the Bible commentary volumes that suit your needs. Click on this link to learn more about Commentary Select.

Classic Commentary:

This subscription gives you unlimited access to a library of trusted, historical commentaries from respected theologians like Matthew Henry, John Calvin, Keil and Delitzsch, and more. Do I need a subscription to use the Olive Tree Bible App?

You do not need a subscription to use the Olive Tree Bible app. We still offer the same individual resources for sale on OliveTree.com and in the in-app stores. You can buy additional resources to download to your Olive Tree app(s) at any time.

Do I need to subscribe to access my previously purchased titles?

You do not need a subscription to access your previously purchased Olive Tree resources. You will have access to these resources alongside your subscription.

What happens if I already own a resource(s) that is in the subscription bundle?

You will be able to use the resource both while you pay for a subscription and when you no longer have an Olive Tree subscription. 

Can I gift a subscription? 

We don't have a gift option for subscriptions currently. We hope to be able to offer this option in the future.

How do I update my payment method?

It depends on where you originally signed up for your subscription.

  • If you signed up within your iOS app, go to your iOS device's Settings app (not within the Bible Study app), tap your name at the top, tap Payment & Shipping, and update your Payment Method here.
  • If you signed up within your Android app, go to the Google Play Store, tap the profile icon in the upper right corner, tap Payments & subscriptions, tap Payment methods, and use this screen to choose a new payment method and edit the details.
  • On the website, you can Edit Payment Method, Update Billing Cycle or Cancel Subscription here

How do I modify my subscription?

It depends on where you originally signed up for the subscription.

  • If you signed up within your iOS app, go to your iOS device's Settings app (not within the Bible Study app), tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, and choose a different subscription option here.
  • If you signed up within your Android app, go to the Google Play Store, tap the profile icon in the upper right corner, tap Payments & subscriptions, tap Subscriptions, and choose a different subscription option.
  • On the website, you can Edit Payment Method, Update Billing Cycle or Cancel Subscription here. You can also manage your 

How do I cancel my subscription?

It depends on where you originally signed up for the subscription.

  • If you signed up within your iOS app, go to your iOS device's Settings app (not within the Bible Study app), tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, and cancel here. 
  • If you signed up within your Android app, go to the Google Play Store, tap the profile icon in the upper right corner, tap Payments & subscriptions, and tap Subscriptions. You can cancel your subscription here. 
  • On the website, you can Edit Payment Method, Update Billing Cycle or Cancel Subscription here. If you have a Commentary Select subscription, you can additionally manage your volumes here.

What happens to my access if I cancel my subscription?

If you cancel your subscription, you will no longer have access to the resources that are part of the subscription. You are welcome to sign up for the subscription again at any time or buy an individual resource(s) from the Olive Tree Store to keep using the resource(s). 

What happens to the annotations (notes/highlights, etc.) in the subscription resources if I cancel my subscription?

When you're logged into your Olive Tree account within your app, you will still have access to your annotations through the Menu, even if you have canceled your subscription and no longer have access to its resources. However, you may not be able to see certain annotations within the text of the resource. For example, if you created a highlight in a title that was included in your subscription, you would not be able to open/view that highlight within the text of the resource that you no longer have access to. 

 

Commentary Select Subscription FAQs:

Can I upgrade to a higher volume Commentary Select Subscription?

Yes, if you have a 4 Volume or 8 Volume subscription, you can upgrade to add more volumes. From within the app, you can tap the Menu in the upper left corner > Account Details > Select 'Manage Subscription' below your Commentary Select subscription for an option to upgrade.

Can I change the commentary volumes for the month after I've chosen them?

No. Once you've saved your commentary selections, there is not a way to make changes until the following month. This is due to the royalties that are calculated based on the titles you selected. If you wish to access another volume, we recommend that you consider upgrading your set or purchasing the desired volume outright.
