Mac - Lookup

The Lookup feature gives you quick access to enhanced Bible dictionaries* you’ve downloaded. It’s a fast way to find articles, definitions, and related content for biblical words, people, places, and topics.
You can purchase additional enhanced dictionaries here.

This guide covers the two types of Lookup in the app: from Bible text and from the Study Center.

Lookup from Bible Text

While reading Scripture, select a word then secondary click (or hold 'control' and click) on the selected word. Select 'Lookup' from the menu that appears to get articles from your dictionaries on that specific word.

Lookup in the Study Center

The Study Center lets you perform a Lookup while searching your library, so you can see every resource that relates to a topic, person, or place.

Open the Study Center by selecting the icon in the upper-right corner of the app.

Select the Search tab.

As you begin typing in the search field, suggestions will appear for biblical people, places, and topics. Click a suggestion to run a Lookup, or select Search (or press Return) to search your full library.

The Lookup results show all related articles from your library. Select an entry to view all the results. In this example, Hope was selected.

9_Lookup_Hope_Results.png

In the Hope Lookup, you'll see any related articles from your Library. Select a result to read the full article. If you performed a Lookup on a place, you may even see maps related to that location.

The "What does the Bible say about:" section lists cross-reference passages, and the "My Notes" section shows any personal notes you’ve made on the topic.

Select the back arrow to return to the Lookup screen.

Worth Noting

The Lookup feature requires the dictionary entry to match the word you are looking up exactly. Therefore, a lookup for the word "baptized" will not pull up an entry if the dictionary entry is "Baptism".

*Is My Dictionary Enhanced?

Most dictionaries you purchase for use within our app are enhanced for the Lookup tools.

In order to see if your dictionary is one of them, you can check the product page on our website and look in the 'Features' section as seen in the example below. If 'Dictionary' is listed as it is here, it is enhanced!
