Mac - Settings

The app’s settings allow you to customize features such as font size, colors, scrolling style, hyperlink behavior, and more. This article provides an overview of the available settings, with brief explanations where helpful.

Quick Settings

Select the Quick Settings icon in the toolbar to quickly access the most commonly used display options:

  • Font Size – Adjust the font size in the current window.
  • Select Theme – Choose between Light and Sepia themes when your Mac is using Light Appearance, or Dark and Black themes when your Mac is using Dark Appearance. To customize colors, turn off Use Theme Colors in the Colors settings. 
  • Vertical Scrolling – Switch between vertical and horizontal scrolling.
  • Margin – Adjust the margins in the current window.
  • Font Face – Change the font style used in the current window.
  • Advanced Settings – Open the full settings menu. 

Advanced Settings 

To access Advanced Settings, select Bible Study from the top menu bar, then choose Settings. You can also reach this section from the Quick Settings menu.

  • Fonts
    • Change the font face and size for different areas of the app.
    • Reset Fonts.
  • Colors

    • Choose whether to use theme colors or customize the background and font colors for different areas of the app.
    • Reset Colors.
  • Themes
    • When your Mac is in Dark Appearance, choose between the Dark and Black themes.
    • When your Mac is in Light Appearance, choose between the Light and Sepia themes.
  • Scrolling
    • Choose between vertical (swipe up/down) and horizontal (swipe left/right) scrolling.
    • Set whether the Resource Guide and Parallel tabs are linked to the main window.
  • 'Go To'/ T.O.C.
    • Customize how Bible navigation appears depending on whether the Bible has a Table of Contents. Choose between a list view or verse grid, and adjust the grid size.
  • Hyperlinks
    • Set a default Bible for hyperlinks.
    • Choose how hyperlinks open.
  • Resource Guide
    • Edit and order the sections and books that appear in the Resource Guide.
  • Lookup
    • Edit and order the sections and books that appear when using Lookup.
  • Display
    • Show Strong's Numbers
    • Verses Start on a New Line
    • Hide Notes and Highlights in Text
    • Hide Notes and Highlights in Popups
    • Multi-Column Text
    • Color Words of Jesus
    • Color Strong's Words
    • Reading Progress Display
    • Display Font Size – Adjust the font size in the left sidebar, Settings, and Study Center.
  • Copy Verse
    • Choose what to include when copying Bible text. Note: The verse reference appears only when you copy by selecting a verse number in the Bible text.
  • Library
    • Automatically Download Books
    • Show Furthest Location Popup – Show a prompt to return to your furthest-read location on any device.
    • Show Expired Subscription Content
    • Show Store Items in Search Results
    • Manage Storage
    • Hidden Resources 
  • Automatic Sync
    • Enable or disable automatic syncing of your data.
  • Reset Fonts and Colors
    • Reset all fonts and colors to their defaults. This can fix some display issues. 
  • Privacy
    • Enable or disable privacy settings and personalization/messaging in the app. You can learn more about privacy settings here.
  • Sidebar Settings
    • Customize your sidebar to show/hide Bibles, Favorites, and Recents.
