Strong's Bibles allow you to explore the original Greek and Hebrew words behind the Bible text. This article explains how to use the basic features of a Strong's Bible in the Olive Tree Bible App.

This article uses the ESV with Strong's on iPad as an example, but these features are available with any Strong's Bible on supported devices.
Strong's Words
When you tap a word that is linked to Strong's information, the Strong's pop-up will open.
Words that are linked to Strong's information are displayed in a different color from untagged words. Tap a linked word to view its Strong's information.
Show Strong's Numbers in Text
You can also view the Strong's numbers in the Bible text.
To show or hide Strong's numbers:
- Tap the Settings icon on the toolbar (gear icon).
- Tap Advanced Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Turn the Show Strong's Numbers switch off (or on).
Strong's Pop-up Details
The Strong's pop-up includes information about the original Greek or Hebrew word, along with options to explore how the word is used and translated.
The dictionary information available in the pop-up depends on the Strong's Bible you are using. Many Strong's Bibles include the Olive Tree Enhanced Strong's Dictionary, while others include their own Strong's dictionary.
- Original Word and Strong's Number - Shows the original Greek or Hebrew word and the Strong's number associated with it.
- Strong's Dictionary Entry - Shows the dictionary entry for the original Greek or Hebrew word, which may include its definition, transliteration, and links to root words (for example, g5463 in the example).
- Translated as... - Shows the English words used to translate the original Greek or Hebrew word and how often each English word is used in the Bible. Tap Show More as needed. Tap an English word to see the verses where the original word is translated using that word. See more details about this below.
- Semantic Domain - Shows the semantic domain of the word, or the range of meanings associated with the word in its original language. These are not English synonyms.
- Search and Lookup - Search allows you to search your current Bible for the Strong's number. Lookup allows you to look up the original Greek or Hebrew word in any Greek or Hebrew dictionaries you have downloaded in the app.
Translated as...
Select a word in the Translated as... section to see the verses where the original Greek or Hebrew word is translated using that specific English word.
Search
When you have a Strong's pop-up open, you will see the option at the bottom of the pop-up that says 'Search'.
Searching for the Strong's number shows where that Strong's number occurs in the Bible, allowing you to see the different ways the original Greek or Hebrew word has been translated into English.
Tap Search.
Lookup
The Lookup feature allows you to look up the original Greek or Hebrew word in any Greek or Hebrew dictionaries that you have downloaded in the app.
Many Greek and Hebrew dictionaries provide additional information about the original word, including its meaning, usage, and background. Here are a few you might find helpful:
