What are Categories?

In the Olive Tree Bible App, categories help you organize annotations (notes, highlights and saved passages) into groups that make sense for your study.

You can create categories (and subcategories) to organize content by topic, study type, sermon series, date, or any method you prefer. Each annotation can be assigned to one category at a time.

We recommend using the Notes section in the menu for the most streamlined experience.

Create a Category

You can create a category while editing a note in the Bible text or through the Menu. 

While editing a note in the Bible text, follow these steps:

  • Tap the three-dot icon in the right corner.

  • Tap 'Change Category'.

  • Tap the '+' in the upper right corner.

  • Enter a label (title).
  • If you want this to be a subcategory, choose a parent category.
  • Tap Create in the upper right corner.

  • You may now choose that Category for the Note.

To create a category through the Menu, follow these steps:

  • Tap the Menu icon.

  • Select 'Notes'.

  • Tap 'Add Category' at the bottom.

  • Enter a label (title).
  • If you want this to be a subcategory, choose a parent category.
  • Tap Create in the upper right corner.

Edit a Category

You can edit the parent category and label of a category using these steps: 

  • Tap the Menu icon.

  • Select 'Notes'.

  • Tap the 'i' icon to the right of the category.

  • Edit the label and/or parent category.
  • Tap the arrow in the left corner to save your changes.

Delete a Category

You can delete a category through the Menu. Please note that if you delete a category that has annotations in it, those annotations will also be deleted. You may need to move the annotations from the category before you can delete the category.  

  • Tap the Menu icon.

  • Select 'Notes'.

  • Locate the category you want to delete.
  • Tap the 'i' icon to the right of the category.

  • Tap on the Trash Can icon.

  • Confirm that you would like to delete the category.
