How To: Eerdman's Dictionary of the Bible

Thank you for your interest in Eerdman’s Dictionary of the Bible. In this Help article, we will go through a few ways to use Eerdman's Dictionary of the Bible to get the most out of your Bible study.

Open in the Main Window

One way to view Eerdman’s Dictionary of the Bible is in the main window. This option will allow you to navigate to the Table of Contents. To access the Table of Contents, tap on the navigation menu at the top of the screen.


This will reveal the Table of Contents as you can see below.



Another way to view Eerdman’s Dictionary of the Bible is by using the Lookup feature. To do access this feature, tap and hold a word and tap 'Lookup' from the menu that appears.


Tapping Lookup will allow you to see articles from all the dictionaries in your Library. To access the Eerdman’s Dictionary of the Bible article, tap its entry under 'Articles'. 


You will then see the entry for the specific word in Eerdman’s Dictionary.


If you would like to expand your view of the entry, simply tap the arrow option in the upper right corner to open the article in the main or Parallel window.


Open in the Resource Guide

To use the Resource Guide, open your preferred Bible translation in the main window and the Resource Guide in the split window. 

First, open the Study Center by selecting the green toolbar at the bottom of the screen.


Next, select the 'Resource Guide' tab (lightbulb icon) to make sure you have the Resource Guide open.


In the Resource Guide, you’ll see relevant topics listed that are mentioned in the Bible text in the main window. By tapping a topic, you will see entries from all the dictionaries in your Library that are related to the topic you have selected. 




The Resource Guide also keeps up with the Scripture passage you’re reading in the main window with sync scrolling. This means that as you scroll in the Bible text, the topics sync to exactly where you are in your Bible study so it's easy to pull up dictionary entries for different topics. You’ll save an enormous amount of time with this feature alone.
