Version 5.3.2 iOS Bug – Note Issue

This issue has been resolved in the latest update to the iOS App Store. We recently discovered a bug with the latest update (5.3.2) which can cause the contents and title of the note being edited to be deleted. What does this mean? The latest update contains an error in the way the application handles low-memory incidents on your device. When your device begins to experience a low-memory situation, the device notifies the app that memory is running low and the app then tries to free any memory it absolutely does not need at that moment. With the current version of the app, if you are editing or creating a note when this notification is received by the app, then the content and title of that note will be lost forever. Only a note opened for editing has the possibility of being affected by this bug. Who is affected? First we should state that this issue is rare, especially on newer devices. All iOS users who upgraded to version 5.3.2 are susceptible to this bug. Users on older devices (iPad 1, iPhone 3GS, early iPods) are more susceptible due to less memory being installed on the device. Some common causes of low-memory incidents are: very large annotations, annotations that contain several hyperlinks, using outside applications to copy and paste text into notes, performing in-app functions like Search or Go To. What is the solution? At this time, it is recommended that users refrain from creating or editing notes that are very important to them. It is always unfortunate to lose annotations, but losing annotations that took a long time to create or one that is going to be used with your next study group/sermon/lesson plan is extremely frustrating. Since each device is different and a myriad of variables can affect your device's available memory, it is impossible to predict when this error might occur. We understand how important the ability to create notes is and this fix is a top priority for the entire Olive Tree team. Our engineers have isolated the cause of this problem and have already submitted an update to the App Store for Approval. We’re sincerely sorry for this unfortunate error. It was our mistake and we are working as quickly as possible to rectify it. Thank you so much for your understanding and patience while we take every step possible to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future. If you have any other questions about the error please feel free to contact our Support team at support@olivetree.com Read more » | |
